Look Out for These Features When Buying and Installing Ducted Reverse Cycle Air Conditioners

Posted on

When you think about air conditioners, the first thing that comes to mind is the need to circulate cool air to lower temperatures inside your house. However, what happens in cold weather when you need to heat the rooms for the same thermal comfort? Well, this is where here reverse air conditioners come in handy. They have a heat pump that enables them to reverse the refrigeration cycle so that they heat up the room instead of cooling it. Ducted reverse cycle air conditioners are especially advantageous because they are designed to heat up many rooms at the same time, unlike portable and wall units. When buying and installing the ducted systems for the first time, be sure to look out for the following three things:

Inverter Technology

Based on what your vendor is selling, he or she may have some brands that have not yet embraced inverter technology, so you should look for this feature when considering which brand to buy. Inverter technology regulates the working of the compressor and enables it to operate at different speeds depending on the output required in the house. Ideally, this means that your compressor will only be running when you need it to. This will significantly reduce the costs you incur in running the system, unlike a case where the compressor runs at maximum speed regardless of the heating load required in the room. In brief, inverter technology is the perfect way to balance between compressor running speed and indoor heat load needs.

Correct Vent Installation

Even with the best brands and technology in the market, your ducted system cannot function optimally if the vents are not installed correctly. The vents are responsible for the efficient distribution of warm air within the house. Vents fitted on the ceiling should be installed centrally in the room. They should not be aligned towards the any of the walls, as this will interfere with the efficient circulation of heat. If the vents have adjustable louvres, the louvres should face downwards rather than sideways.

Programmable Thermostats

Programmable thermostats are what you need to make your heating system seemingly computerised. They will help you set the appropriate indoor temperatures and turn the system on or off automatically as dictated by the surrounding temperature. Generally, anything between sixteen and eighteen degrees Celsius should be ideal for bedrooms, while eighteen to twenty degrees Celsius will suffice for living rooms and other general areas.
